We've also adopted them in our house in part due to the food allergy issues (egg allergies make Passover REALLY tough) and in part because ... well ... some just make more sense to me.

Happy Pesah!
- David BAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541939938009231928.post-86820398208142301652010-04-28T13:51:07.953-07:002010-04-28T13:51:07.953-07:00Thanks for the response and yes, I did make one of...Thanks for the response and yes, I did make one of the beers that you tasted. When I recieve the scoring sheets from Sam Adams, they will show how the earlier round judges rated the beer. I do plan on entering again next year and was just curious on any more insight, not to disclose any inside info of course, on how the others were received by the tasting panel. Thanks again and I enjoy the blog.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541939938009231928.post-89525523444735899622010-04-28T11:27:03.698-07:002010-04-28T11:27:03.698-07:00As was released by Sam Adams today, Rob North, of ...As was released by Sam Adams today, Rob North, of Manchester, NH won the competition with a Rauchbier, as you noted.

The panel really took the process seriously, and was challenged by Jim to pick the best beer, not necessarily the one that might be most accessible. While it wasn't unanimous, the majority clearly liked the Rauchbier the best, and Jim went with that decision.

All of the beers were good, but obviously some were liked better than others. When all was said and done, I pretty much spelled out the selection process above. I think when you try the Rauchbier at Gillette this year (if you are able to get there), you will really enjoy it! It is a fantastic beer, and very well made.

If you made one of the beers in the final five, congratulations are due to you also! That is no small accomplishment in such a big field. Nice job--and make sure you enter again next year!David Rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17281985750976667595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541939938009231928.post-37716679712538330932010-04-28T10:21:33.467-07:002010-04-28T10:21:33.467-07:00Congratulations to the winner, I am sure the Rauch...Congratulations to the winner, I am sure the Rauchbier is excellent. Still, I would expect residual sweetness, so it is a bit of a mystery. Best I can determine is the grain bill had a good percentage darker grain and a higher mash temp that resulted in lots of non-fermentable sugars. Like your roggenbier, the porter does not have a sweet, cloying taste expected from beers that do not finish with a low gravity.Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04401879636724550259noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541939938009231928.post-79071274346879081662009-11-29T07:15:57.913-08:002009-11-29T07:15:57.913-08:00Yeah, the 'mythical' oatmeal stout seems t...Yeah, the 'mythical' oatmeal stout seems to allude many of us. As you know my brother flew up from MD to go to the Nov. 8th Pats game largely becuase I had been bragging about your beer since last Spring. It was disappointing to not have any available at the taps. One would think that if they are selling out that fast each week they would increase production for future games, but I guess not. Maybe you can convince them to pull a keg or a few bottles for you to share with others.

I think Sam Adams means well in many of the things they do but they do not always follow through on promises which can be disappointing. An example would be the custom six packs we were supposed to receive for participating in a market study session. They never came through.

But, in the end Dave you are to be congratulated for having your beer win and you should be flattered that it is selling out. That speaks volumes about the quality of the brew. Two Barrel Brewshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01197945580094567627noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1541939938009231928.post-75833480397863383572009-10-05T06:02:58.287-07:002009-10-05T06:02:58.287-07:00Hi David and other readers -
